General information about SPICE C-kernels
=========================================

In the SPICE system, pointing data for an instrument platform, or
for a specific instrument, are stored C-kernels. The pointing of
a platform or an instrument is often expressed in terms of a
transformation matrix from some standard inertial reference frame
to a instrument-fixed frame. In the past, the instrument was often
   a camera, and the transformation was thus dubbed the ``C-matrix'';
hence the choice of C as the name for the pointing kernel.

The data contained in C-kernel files can be accessed and manipulated
by a collection of FORTRAN 77 subroutines which are part of the
SPICELIB library. These subroutines can be integrated into user
application programs. The SPICE system toolkit for a number of
computer platforms or information regarding how it can be obtained
is located in the SOFTWARE subdirectory of the main directory of
   this dataset.

To use C-kernels, a Spacecraft Clock Kernel (SCLK) is required.
Also, for C-Kernels containing orientation of a project-defined
frames, a Frame Definitions File is required.

Refer to the CK.REQ document provided with the toolkit or available
from the NAIF Node of PDS if SPICE toolkit is not included with
this data set to get more information on how to access C-kernel
   data.

Odyssey (M01) C-kernels contained in this volume
======================================

This volume contains the SPICE C-Kernel files for the Odyssey
spacecraft, its solar arrays and high gain antenna. All files are in
IEEE binary format and suitable for ftp binary transfer to use on UNIX
workstations and MACs. The following files are present in this
volume. (Only file names are shown; the file name extensions of
the binary CK files are always ".bc"):

CK files for the cruise, aerobraking,
mapping, and extended phases of the
mission. The letter ``N'' indicates the
                                file version. The letters ``PPPPPP''
indicate the mission phase or a portion
of the mission phase covered by the
file and map to the actual coverage

                                (1) the first mapping file, ``map1'',
is shorter than three months to align
the file coverage boundaries with the
                                project-wide archive period cut-off
                                dates.

                                (2) although the extended mission
started in August 2004, ``map11'' file
goes through the end of September and
``ext1'' file starts on October 1 to
keep the file coverage begins/ends at
                                three month boundaries.

                                Note that ``m01_sc_map1'' released in
                                June 2002 and covering through
2002-05-31 has been replaced with two
files containing exactly same data --
                                ``m01_sc_map1_v2'' covering through
                                2002-03-31 and ``m01_sc_map2'' covering
from 2002-04-01. This was done to align
the file coverage boundaries with the
                                project-wide archive period cut-off
dates, as requested by the project's
DAWG. The same was done with ``map1''
                                SA and HGA CKs.

           m01_sc_PPPPPP_rec_nadir Odyssey spacecraft predicted nominal

the mapping and extended phases of the
                                mission. The letters ``PPPPPP''
indicate the portion of the mission phase
covered by the file in the same way as
for the reconstructed CKs. Refer to the

                                observations during the extended phases
of the mission. The letters ``PPPPPP''
indicate the portion of the mission
phase covered by the file in the same
way as for the reconstructed CKs. The
                                letter ``N'' indicates the file
version. Refer to the internal comments
provided in these files for details
                                regarding files' intended usage.

                                orientation CK files. The letters
                                following ``PPPPPP'' indicate the
portion of the mission phase covered by
the file and map to the actual coverage
dates as defined by the table above.
The letter ``N'' indicates the file
                                version.

m01_hga_PPPPPP Odyssey high gain antenna reconstructed
                                orientation CK files. The letters
``PPPPPP'' indicate the portion of the
mission phase covered by the file and
maps to the actual coverage dates as
defined by the table above. The letter
                                ``N'' indicates the file version.
